Children's Readers of the Week

We have our 8 Readers of the week from summer.  Congratulations to Erica S., Sidney C., Claire J., Ryan H., Alec W., Bailey B., Grace C., and Anna B.  Be sure to stop in the Children's Library to see all of the posters for our Readers of the Week and their favorite books.

Read Up a Storm and Feel the Thunder!

Come to the library this Tuesday (Sept. 2) and join us for games and meet the team of the Albert Lea Thunder!

Also be sure to pick up a hat-trick card - read three books and get it punches and kids grades 6 and under will receive a free ticket to the Thunder game Friday, October 11.

LIBRARY CLOSING

The Albert Lea Public Library will be closed on Monday, September 01 in observance of Labor Day.  We will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 02 at 10:00 a.m.  We will be open our regular hours on Saturday, August 30 (10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) and Sunday, August 31 (1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.).

Utterly Otterly Day!

Utterly Otterly Day by Mary Casanova is a fun book for kids to read and they will love looking at the pictures by Ard Hoyd. If you like this author and artist combo be sure to check out another one of their works One-Dog Canoe.

Summer is Almost Gone

The three months of freedom that you get at the end of every school year is almost over.  What have you done with your free time?
Did you go on a fun trip?
Did you lie in front of the T.V. or your game station?
Did you join the summer reading program or visit the library?
Did you read a good book?
Remember there isn't much summer left, so don't waste it.  Get out there and do something that you can't normally do during the school year.

Join a fun group selling coffee and used books at the City Center.  The Fountain Lake Bookstore is opening in September and they need men and women to volunteer their time.  If you're interested, contact Jane Hofkamp at 373-6736.

Stephenie Meyer's Twilight fans should definately get on the request list for The Host. The Host is a new series by Meyer. It is more sci-fi than supernatural but has proved by be an enjoyable read for many Twilight fans.

Are you planning a road trip?  Or do you need to know exactly how to get from point A to B?  www.mapquest.com is a great website to help you with that.  It lists detailed directions along with estimated travel time and maps to anywhere in the United States as well as France, Germany, Italy, Spain and other countries.  It also lists the gas prices for any area, the lowest and highest and where to find them.

NON-FICTION BOOK CLUB HOLDS MONTHLY DISCUSSION GROUP

The Non-fiction Book Club will meet Tuesday, August 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Information Library. Book to be discussed is The Zookeepers Wife a war story by Diane Ackerman.  Led by Library Director Peggy Havener.  Popcorn will be served.

Summer Reading Was a Great Success!

If you haven't picked up your summer reading prizes yet, be sure to get in soon to pick them up.  Congratulations to the over 400 kids who participated and read a total of 3800 books!  Way to go everyone!!
