This Weeks Winners

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEATRIX POTTER

On July 28, 1866, Beatrix Potter was born in South Kensington, London.  She lived a lonely life at home, being educated by a governess and having little contact with other people. Loving animals, she kept many as pets, studying them and making drawings, and eventually becoming the author and illustrator of the Peter Rabbit stories for children. At the Albert Lea Public Library, you will find many of these beautifully written and illustrated books which are enjoyed by all ages. Some of them are : The Tale of Jeremy Bunny, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Jeremy Fisher, The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, The Tale of Two Bad Mice, The Tales of Peter Rabbit and His Friends, The Tailor of Gloucester and Jemima Puddle Duck.

Summer Reading Extended

Great news for those of you who still have to complete the Summer Reading Program.  We have extended the end date to Saturday, August 2nd.  You will still be able to read and record books for another week!  Get to reading, we still have many prizes left.

Coming soon to Albert Lea Public Library's Podcast - Mother Goose Rhymes and other great poems such as "Wynken, Blynken and Nod" and "The Quangle Wangle's Hat." "The Quangle Wangle's Hat" is silly and reminiscent of Dr. Suess poems and stories.

Be sure to come and listen to the great classic fairy tales now on the podcast: "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "The Three Little Bears."

IF YOU LOVE GARLIC

Gilroy, California is the "Garlic Capital of the World", and every summer, it holds "The Gilroy Garlic Festival" which consists of a garlic recipe contest/cook-off, ethnic foods, arts, crafts, continuous entertainments on three stages and a children's area.  It is held the last full weekend in July, and this year will be the 30th anniversary of the festival which has reached an attendance total of 3,000,000.  The Albert Lea Public Library the official Gilroy cookbook, The Garlic Lovers Cookbook, complied by the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association.   If you are interested in more information about this exciting festival, go to their website http://gilroygarlicfestival.com/

If you're looking for a new, unique author and enjoy reading Amy Tan, why not try out Anchee Min. The story is a well-researched look into the life of Tsu Hsi, a passionate and assertive woman who pushes against the political and social boundaries of her time.

Last Week to Get in on the Fun!!

Storytime on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday @ 10:30 am.  Patty will be telling "summer fun" stories and everyone will do a neat craft.
Library Afternoon Fun is Tuesday @ 3 pm.  We will be making our own craft and playing a lot of fun games.
Summer Celebration on Thursday, July 24th @ 3 pm at the Gazebo.  Fun and games!!
Movie day on Friday, July 25th @ 3 pm. We will be showing "The Reef".  Popcorn provided.
Summer Reading Ends on Saturday, July 26th.  Be sure to get all of your books logged in before then.  Prizes can still be picked up until August 10th.
Summer Programming Ends this week also.  Storytime resumes Sept. 8th,  L.A.F. resumes Sept. 9th, and nighttime storytime resumes on Sept. 11th.
Thanks to everyone for a great job on the Summer Reading program and for all the involvement in our programs.  Enjoy the rest of summer and we'll see you at the Library!!
